Wondering if any of you have paint peeling off your hood scoop. If you do, did you remedy it? I'm thinking about getting it repainted but I'm wondering the cost. If you guys got yours touched up how much did it set you back? I'm thinking of matching the paint. I considered plasti dip or the likes but I'd like to keep the car looking stock.
Thanks!

I don't have nor can I answer your inquiry in cost but it's a very common problem on that car.
You won't know the cost until you go get a quote from a paint shop. I would imagine 1-2 hour of prep and another hour or two of paint

Nope no paint peeling on my saab. Why not get a carbon fiber one for like $95?

Don't have that problem on mine as of yet but like SnapU said. Probably just need a quote. I"d say probably around $200 tentatively?

Used to have an '04 WRX wagon in WR Blue. My hood scoop picked up so many rock chips at the leading edge before I sold it, that I had all but given up trying to patch it with one of those little touch-up brush things from Autozone. Plus I could never find the right blue, so I think I used a GM color from a corvette... Anyway, yeah. Pretty normal for that car, based on my single data-point of anecdotal evidence.

Depending on what color your car is, Grimmspeed sells spray paint that perfectly matches OEM colors. That's only 15 for a can of that, and then a coat of clearcoat, and I think you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference from a few feet away.

Hahaha...well given your single anecdotal evidence I will say guess what year model and color my car is? If you guessed the same as yours you'd be right. I am way to late for touch ups. It's eating the right side of the scoop

Yea i read about the paper thin paint before buying it and laughed. I thought how bad could it be. Well yea everyone was right. I like your estimation on time though!

WR blue!
Sweet I like that. I have never really done much painting so I'd be a little worried about messing it up but if that's the case I like this idea.
Thanks!

Thought about doing just a plasti dip instead of buying a new scoop all together. Personally I'd like to keep the scoop blue. Not to say I don't like seeing carbon fiber on other cars. It's just not for me.

Thanks!
I've tried looking into buying scoops twice now from other WR blue scoobs from around '04 and both people tried to sell me them for 60 with the same problem I'm having haha.

Did the saabaru's have the same paper thin paint? I know there was small differences between models but I wasn't sure if that extended to paint as well

Have no clue, the previous owner had it "repainted" (looks like they threw a bucket of paint on it and called it good enough). The paints cracked on the bumpers though, but I'm sure it wasn't the paint from the factory if that helps you any.

Yea sounds about right. Sometimes you can find a gem on the WRX forums but it's typically guys with the same problems.

Damn... The interwebs told me Saabaru owners were the better of the bunch. Sucks you got the "good enough" type. Hopefully the go fast bits were good.

Hmm didn't think about the forums. I've been perusing CL which probably explains my lack of luck.

Running on 3 cylinders right now til I can get to the dealer to get a coil pack. Also due to a transmission solenoid I really only have 3rd gear. But the price is right and I'm pretty sure the previous owner owned a tuning company in New York so I'm optimistically confidant in the go fast swapped engine bits. I'll nurse her back to health soon though.

Bummer. Best of luck getting her back on the road. On the bright side, I feel like 3rd is a really strong gear on those transmissions. 2nd feels like it wants to explode, so you got a good gear going for you haha

You'll find a good ten times Craigslist's haul on a local forum.
